《英語語音實(shí)用教程/新世紀(jì)師范英語系列教材》由18個單元組成。第1單元為語音學(xué)習(xí)總體介紹，包括國際音標(biāo)（phoneticalphabet）、發(fā)音器官、音位分類等，為后續(xù)單元學(xué)習(xí)奠定基礎(chǔ)；第2至10單元以音位為主要內(nèi)容，集中解決元音和輔音問題；第11至18單元著力解決C音段（super-segmental）相關(guān)問題。每單元設(shè)導(dǎo)入（lead—in），主體部分包括：理解（understanding）、發(fā)音（pronouncing）、聽辨活動（identifying and practicing）、交流表達(dá)（production in communication）。此外，各單元還設(shè)有特色欄目，如開心時刻（fun time）、課后作業(yè)（home assignment）、自我評價（self-assessment）等。此外，創(chuàng)設(shè)的教學(xué)指點(diǎn)（tips for teaching）闡述我國師生在教與學(xué)中出現(xiàn)的主要問題，分析原因并提供解決辦法，是《英語語音實(shí)用教程/新世紀(jì)師范英語系列教材》的一大特色。鑒于音位教學(xué)涉及很多專業(yè)術(shù)語，為了幫助學(xué)生掌握發(fā)音器官、理解英語發(fā)音說明，相關(guān)部分還增加了漢語提示，便于教學(xué)。書后提供英漢術(shù)語對照表與參考書目，作為輔助學(xué)習(xí)資源，為進(jìn)一步做研究提供參考。
