10. While many American parents think that public schools tend to fall short of private schools, Demeka instead tried to dispel(消除、打消) that myth.

11. “Basically, I was their humanities coach, supporting them with Social Studies, English Language Arts, and writing. My husband was their math and science coach,”

“基本上,我是他們的人文指導(dǎo),在社會(huì)學(xué)、英語語言藝術(shù)和寫作方面支持他們。我丈夫是他們的數(shù)學(xué)和科學(xué)指導(dǎo)?!?/p>

12. Aside from coaching their kids on academic subjects, Demeka and Anthony made sure to sharpen their kids’ study skills — early. While most kindergarteners were learning how to operate the iPad and play in the park, Anthony and Chyna were getting the hang of self-analysis and self-assessment.

除了輔導(dǎo)孩子的學(xué)業(yè),Demeka和Anthony還確保盡早提高孩子的學(xué)習(xí)技能。當(dāng)大多數(shù)幼兒園的孩子還在學(xué)習(xí)如何操作iPad和在公園里玩的時(shí)候,Anthony和Chyna已經(jīng)掌握了自我分析和自我評(píng)估的訣竅。


13. Demeka explained, “They’ve been analyzing and using data and conducting self-assessments and reflections and goal setting since kindergarten. We would pull out the report cards, any test results that they would get and teach them how to read that data and to draw conclusions from their data and to reflect on, ‘What are my strengths? What are my areas for improvement?’ These behaviors served them well in the college admissions process.”

14. “The interesting thing is people think they didn’t have a normal childhood. Anybody who knows them will tell you that they had a normal childhood. As a matter of fact, my friends would say, ‘They were outside playing and don’t study as much as our kids. When do they have time to…?’

“有趣的是,人們以為他們沒有一個(gè)正常的童年。任何認(rèn)識(shí)他們的人都會(huì)告訴你,他們的童年很正常。事實(shí)上,我的朋友們會(huì)說,‘他們?cè)谕饷嫱?,不像我們的孩子那樣學(xué)習(xí)。他們什么時(shí)候有時(shí)間…?”


15. But here is the thing. All that we ever asked, depending on their age, is that there was at least an hour a day of learning, of some structured learning.”

16. Beyond daily structured learning, Demeka and Anthony wove learning into the fabric of their daily family lives. They didn’t put ordinarily mundane (平凡的、單調(diào)的) moments to waste. What does that mean?
