The chance to work in the US for Chinese students who study in the STEM fields – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – is shrinking due to tighter visa controls.

Chinese nationals make up a third of the 1.1 million international students in the US, according to the New York-based Institute of International Education. About 36 percent of the 363,341 Chinese students study in the fields of STEM.

In this week’s Inside China Tech, our host Zen Soo speaks to Meng Jing, who covers the China tech scene for the Post from Beijing, and Edith Yeung, venture capitalist at blockchain fund Proof of Capital about the challenges faced by the growing number of Chinese students in the US.

Yeung, a former exchange student who has worked in Silicon Valley for years, talks about her experience and frustration as a foreign employee in the US. Meanwhile, Meng tells the stories of Chinese students who face visa scrutiny and haven’t been home for years in the fear of not being allowed to return to the US.
