The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Grain Buds, the eighth solar term of a year, begins on May 20 this year, and ends on June 5. It means that the seeds from grain are becoming full but are not ripe.

中國傳統(tǒng)農(nóng)歷將一年分為24個(gè)節(jié)氣，小滿是第8個(gè)節(jié)氣，今年始于5月20日,止于6月5日。它的意思是谷粒里的種子正變得飽滿，但還沒有成熟。

The 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural production. But the solar term culture is still useful today to guide people's lives through special foods, cultural ceremonies, gardening and even healthy living tips that correspond with each solar term.

24節(jié)氣是數(shù)千年前為了指導(dǎo)農(nóng)業(yè)生產(chǎn)而創(chuàng)造的。但節(jié)氣里蘊(yùn)含的文化在今天仍然很適用，通過特殊的食物、文化儀式、園藝，甚至是與每個(gè)節(jié)氣相對(duì)應(yīng)的健康生活貼士來指導(dǎo)人們的生活。

1、Good season for eating fish

吃魚的好季節(jié)

During the Grain Buds period, the summer harvest is about to begin. A saying about rain during this time mentions, "A heavy rainfall makes the river full". Because of the great increase in rainfall, rivers are full of water, which makes fish and shrimp big and fat. This is a good time to eat fish and shrimp. It is also harvest season for fishermen.

在小滿期，夏收即將開始。有句關(guān)于這段時(shí)節(jié)的雨的俗語 “小滿大滿江河滿”，由于降雨量的大量增加，河流充滿了水，這使得魚和蝦又大又肥。這是吃魚蝦的好季節(jié)。同樣也是漁民的收獲季節(jié)。

2、Good season for eating mulberries

吃桑葚的好季節(jié)

A Chinese farmer proverb says, "Mulberries become black during the Grain Buds period". Thus it is a good season to eat mulberries.

中國農(nóng)民有句諺語:“小滿桑葚黑”。因此，這是一個(gè)吃桑葚的好季節(jié)。

3、Tips on health

健康小建議

High temperatures and humidity are common during the Grain Buds period. The increase in temperature over this season may also give rise to nettle rash, rheumatism, sweat spots, eczema and other skin diseases.

高溫高濕是小滿時(shí)節(jié)常見的現(xiàn)象。這個(gè)季節(jié)溫度的升高也可能導(dǎo)致蕁麻疹、風(fēng)濕、汗斑、濕疹和其他皮膚病高發(fā)。

It is also important to exercise to keep healthy during the hot summer days. Walking, jogging and practicing tai chi are popular.

雖然夏天炎熱，但鍛煉身體以保持健康也很重要。散步、慢跑和打太極都很是不錯(cuò)的選擇。

4、Key period for flower management

花卉管理的關(guān)鍵時(shí)期

This time is a good period for the quick growth of flowers. It is also a season when plant diseases and pests are at an all-time high.

這段時(shí)間是花卉快速生長的好時(shí)期。在這個(gè)季節(jié)，植物的病蟲害也達(dá)到了歷史最高水平。

Flower trimming and clipping is important. And a systematic fertilized water system should be carried out. Flowers need a lot of water and extra care to ensure plants remain healthy. Weeding should be done as they grow quickly and have to beeradicated to keep the soil loose and from competing with flowers for nutrients.

修剪花卉很重要的，最好要建立系統(tǒng)化的施肥水系統(tǒng)?；ㄐ枰罅康臐补嗪皖~外的照顧，以確保植物保持健康。除草，應(yīng)該在它們長得快的時(shí)候進(jìn)行，以保持土壤疏松，為了避免與花朵爭(zhēng)奪養(yǎng)分，必須將它們清除。

5、Celebrating the silkworm deity's birthday

祈蠶節(jié)

Silkworm rearing is a traditional byproduct for people in regions south of the Yangtze River. During the Grain Buds season, silkworms have cocooned. People begin to cook cocoons and prepare the spinning wheel for reeling silk.

對(duì)于長江以南地區(qū)的人們來說，養(yǎng)蠶是一種傳統(tǒng)的副產(chǎn)品。在小滿節(jié)氣，蠶結(jié)繭，人們開始煮繭并準(zhǔn)備紡車紡絲。

People in East China's Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces regard this season as the birthday of the silkworm deity. Those who engage in the silk industry thank the deity by offering sacrifices and staging performances. They pray to the deity for blessings and a boom season for the silk business.

江浙一帶的人們把這個(gè)季節(jié)看作是蠶神的誕辰。從事絲綢行業(yè)的人們，通過獻(xiàn)祭和表演來感謝蠶神。他們向神祈福，以祈求保佑絲綢生意興旺。
