北京環(huán)球度假區(qū)正式開園丨Universal opens to packed crowds

The opening ceremony of the Universal Beijing Resort took place on Monday. The joint 40 billion yuan ($6.2 billion) Sino-US project serves as proof of fruitful cooperation between businesses from the two countries.

周一，北京環(huán)球度假區(qū)正式開園。該園區(qū)為中美合資，造價(jià)約400億元人民幣（折合62億美元），是中美兩國貿(mào)易的友好往來的有力見證。

The resort, which includes the Universal Studios Beijing theme park, the Universal CityWalk Beijing and two hotels — the Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel — is expected to receive more than 10 million tourists a year, and bring in annual revenues of 10 billion yuan, according to Wang Tayi, general manager of Beijing International Resort Co, and owner of Universal Beijing.

園區(qū)內(nèi)設(shè)有環(huán)球影城主題公園、環(huán)球城市大道、環(huán)球影城大酒店與諾金度假酒店。北京國際度假區(qū)總經(jīng)理兼北京環(huán)球負(fù)責(zé)人王他一表示，園區(qū)開園后，有望每年接待1000萬名游客，預(yù)期收入達(dá)到100億元。

"I'm very excited to see the opening of the resort after the ups and downs of the past 20 years," Wang said. "There have been so many unforgettable moments associated with this project, one of which was in September 2014, when it was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, a milestone in the entire process."

面對園區(qū)的開園，王他一感慨萬分，回想起過去二十年來，項(xiàng)目組歷經(jīng)波折，克服重重困難。他表示，2014年9月，即項(xiàng)目獲國家發(fā)改委批準(zhǔn)的時(shí)刻是整個(gè)籌備過程中的里程碑，尤為難忘。

Beijing International Resort Co is a joint venture between Beijing Shouhuan Cultural Tourism Investment Co and Universal Parks & Resorts, a business unit of Comcast NBCUniversal.

北京國際度假有限公司，是由北京首寰文化旅游投資有限公司與康卡斯特NBC環(huán)球公司旗下的環(huán)球主題園區(qū)公司的合資企業(yè)。

Established in 2013, Beijing Shouhuan is a subsidiary of the Beijing Tourism Group, one of the largest players in China's tourism and hospitality sector, and first raised the idea of building the theme park in Beijing in 2001.

北京首寰文化旅游投資有限公司成立于2013年，隸屬國內(nèi)旅游與服務(wù)行業(yè)巨頭——首旅集團(tuán)旗下。首旅集團(tuán)曾在2001年首次提出在北京建立主題公園的設(shè)想。

"It's fairly rare these days that two companies from China and the United States manage to remain loyal to each other and continue cooperating for 20 years,"Wang said. "BTG and Universal Parks & Resorts have both been through a lot over the years, but we have finally made our promise a reality."

王他一表示，當(dāng)下，中美兩家企業(yè)能保持二十來年的合作關(guān)系十分少見。首旅集團(tuán)與環(huán)球主題園區(qū)公司間的合作路途崎嶇，飽經(jīng)艱辛，最終依舊兌現(xiàn)承諾，將理想變?yōu)榱爽F(xiàn)實(shí)。

China's central government has been very supportive of the project, he added.

他還補(bǔ)充道，中央政府也大力支持該項(xiàng)目。

"The government agreeing to the project gave us access to the market and revenue, which was crucial for both companies."

Tom Mehrmann, president and general manager of the Beijing International Resort Co Theme Park and Resort Management Branch, said the Chinese government foresaw the country's rapidly growing urban middle class 20 years ago, and this led to the idea of building a world-class theme park in the capital.

北京國際度假區(qū)有限公司主題公園和度假區(qū)管理分公司董事長苗樂文表示，中國政府高瞻遠(yuǎn)矚，20年前就預(yù)見到城市中產(chǎn)階級的持續(xù)激增，進(jìn)一步肯定了在首都建設(shè)世界級主題公園的設(shè)想。

"China saw the opportunity in Universal and Universal saw the opportunity in China," said Mehrmann, adding that the park is not merely a copy of other Universal theme parks. "We brought global theme park insight to China and blended it with local culture."

苗樂文表示，中國與環(huán)球公司抓住機(jī)遇，合作共贏。并表示，北京的環(huán)球影城并非其他環(huán)球影城的復(fù)制品，而是全球主題公園的設(shè)計(jì)思想與中國文化相互交融而設(shè)計(jì)建成的全新園區(qū)。

For instance, in one of the resort's seven "lands" — Hollywood — visitors can enjoy a behind-the-scenes filmmaking experience which was created by Hollywood film director Steven Spielberg and Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou.

The Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, inspired by the Dream-Works Animation film franchise, is Universal's first "land" built around the franchise and contains many Chinese cultural elements.

“功夫熊貓：蓋世之地”是夢工廠公司特許環(huán)球公司經(jīng)營建設(shè)的第一個(gè)景區(qū)，同樣也包含許多中國文化元素。

Even in terms of its food offerings, the park is integrated, with around 65 percent of food outlets serving Chinese or Asian cuisine and 35 percent serving Western, Mehrmann said.

園區(qū)內(nèi)還提供多樣化的餐飲，65%左右的參觀提供中餐以及亞洲餐食，其余35%則以西方餐品為主。

Tourist industry experts predicted that Universal Beijing will experience a domestic boom during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the upcoming National Day holidays in early October.

旅游業(yè)專家預(yù)測，中秋以及隨后的國慶兩個(gè)假期，北京環(huán)球影城將引爆國內(nèi)的旅游經(jīng)濟(jì)。

"By welcoming tourists officially since opening day, the resort has sent an important signal that China can revive its tourist market, while doing a great job of COVID-19 control and prevention at the same time," said Dai Bin, head of the China Tourism Academy.

中國旅游研究院院長戴斌指出，環(huán)球影城的開業(yè)已然成為當(dāng)下的旅游熱點(diǎn)，并強(qiáng)調(diào)在我國復(fù)工復(fù)產(chǎn)、疫情常態(tài)化的情況下，影城開園對旅游業(yè)的復(fù)蘇和產(chǎn)業(yè)振興起到了非常重要的促進(jìn)作用。

"The resort is expected to contribute around 0.28 percentage points to Beijing's GDP growth," he added.

他還提到，園區(qū)的預(yù)計(jì)營業(yè)額已達(dá)到2020年北京市0.28%的GDP。

Beijing municipal government senior officials also attended the opening ceremony.
