This is the 2nd tongue twister in my new 1 Minute Tongue Twister series. ?If you don’t remember just how important tongue twisters can be to your English learning, or if you missed part 1,?check it out here. ?With enough practice, they can really help you with your English fluency! ?So let’s get started!
Today’s tongue twister is another classic that just about every native English speaker should know, and it focuses on the “s” and “sh” pronunciation. ?It’s about a sweet innocent little girl who has a hobby of collecting and selling shells. ?Would you like to hear her story? ?Here it is:
Now then, as I explained last time, if you don’t really understand what you are saying or reading, it won’t sound natural or fluent. ?You would sound like a robot. ?So let’s go step by step and explain the story of this girl.
This cute girl we are talking about likes to?collect shells. ?What kind of shells: turtle shells, egg shells, ghost in a shell? ?In this story, it’s the kind that you can often?find on the beach?and that?come from the ocean?– we call those?seashells. ? So the kind of shells she likes to collect are surely, or definitely, seashells. ?
After she gets a lot of shells, she tries to?sell them on the shore. ?What kind of shore though? ?Well, the shore between the ocean and the land, which we call a “seashore.” ?So if she goes to the seashore, and sells the shells there, well then they are definitely (or surely) shells from the seashore, or seashore shells.?
Now that we understand her story more clearly, let’s try again:
I hope today’s tongue twister helped your s and sh pronunciation. ?Maybe someday you can try selling seashells by the seashore, and if you make a lot of money, don’t forget who gave you the idea!
