The Princess and the Pea
豌豆公主
There was once a prince, and he wanted a princess, but then she must be a real Princess.
從前有一位王子，他想找一位公主結(jié)婚，但是她必須是一位真正的公主。
He travelled right around the world to find one, but there was always something wrong.
他走遍了全世界，想要尋找到一位真正的公主，但不論走到什么地方，總碰到一些障礙。
There were plenty of princesses, but whether they were real princesses he had great difficulty in discovering; there was always something that was not quite right about them.
公主倒有的是，但王子無(wú)法判斷她們究竟是不是真正的公主，因?yàn)樗齻兛傆幸恍┑胤讲淮髮?duì)頭。
So, at last, he had come home again, and he was very sad because he wanted a real princess so badly.
結(jié)果，他只好回家來(lái)，心中很不快活，因?yàn)樗嵌嗝纯释玫揭晃徽嬲墓鳌?/p>
One evening there was a terrible storm; it thundered and lightened and the rain poured down in torrents; indeed it was a fearful night.
有一天晚上，忽然起了一陣可怕的暴風(fēng)雨，電閃雷鳴，著實(shí)令人害怕。
In the middle of the storm somebody knocked at the town gate, and the old King himself sent to open it.
這時(shí)，有人在敲門(mén)，老國(guó)王親自去開(kāi)門(mén)。
It was a princess who stood outside, but she was in a terrible state from the rain and the storm.
站在城外的是一位美麗的公主，可是經(jīng)過(guò)了風(fēng)吹雨打之后，她非常狼狽。
The water streamed out of her hair and her clothes; it ran in at the top of her shoes and out at the heel, but she said that she was a real princess.
水沿著她的頭發(fā)和衣服向下流，流進(jìn)鞋尖，又從腳跟流出來(lái)，但她說(shuō)她是一位真正的公主。
"Well, we shall soon see if that is true, " thought the old Queen, but she said nothing.
“到底是不是，我們一看便知?！崩匣屎笮南?，但她什么也沒(méi)說(shuō)。
She went into the bedroom, took all the bedclothes off, and laid a pea on the bedstead; then she took twenty mattresses and piled them on top of the pea, and then twenty feather beds on top of the mattresses.
她走進(jìn)臥室，把所有的被褥全部搬開(kāi)，在床榻上放了一粒豌豆；然后取出二十張床墊，把它們壓在豌豆上，隨后又在這些墊子上放了二十床絨被。
This was where the princess was to sleep that night.
這位公主夜里就睡在這些東西上面。
In the morning they asked her how she slept.
第二天早晨大家問(wèn)她昨晚睡得怎樣。
"Oh, terribly bad!" said the princess,
“啊，一點(diǎn)兒也不舒服！”公主說(shuō)。
"I have hardly closed my eyes the whole night! Heaven knows what was in the bed. I seemed to be lying upon some hard thing, and my whole body is black and blue this morning. It is terrible!"
“我差不多整夜都沒(méi)有合上眼！天曉得床下有什么東西。有一粒很硬的東西硌著我，弄得我全身發(fā)紫。這真是太可怕了！”
They saw at once that she must be a real princess when she had felt the pea through twenty mattresses and twenty feather beds.
大家看出來(lái)了，她的確是一位真正的公主。因?yàn)閴涸谶@二十層床墊子和二十床絨被下面的一粒豌豆，她居然還能感覺(jué)得出來(lái)。
Nobody but a real princess could have such a delicate skin.
除了真正的公主以外，沒(méi)有人會(huì)有這么稚嫩的皮膚。
So the prince took her to be his wife, for now he was sure that he had found a real princess, and the pea was put into the Museum, where it may still be seen if no one has stolen it.
因此，那位王子就選她做妻子了，因?yàn)樗浪玫搅艘晃徽嬲墓?。這粒豌豆因此也送進(jìn)了博物館。如果沒(méi)有人把它拿走的話(huà)，人們現(xiàn)在還可以在那兒看到它呢。
Now this is a true story.
這是一個(gè)真實(shí)的故事。
