PM partner's visa refused

The girlfriend of Boris Johnson, the new Prime Minister of the UK, was barred from visiting the US. Carrie Symonds, 31, applied for a visa to go to America in the next few days as part of her job with a US-based environmental group, but the American authorities have blocked the request. It is believed the decision to ban her from visiting America stems from her five-day visit last year to Somaliland in East Africa.

The UK is among a handful of nations who have diplomatic relations with Somaliland, which broke away from neighboring Somalia in 1991. But the US – which backs Somalia – does not. Symonds, the US embassy in London and Downing Street all declined to comment on the visa refusal.

The internet is delighted to see pictures of Trevor Mallard, speaker of New Zealand's parliament, cradling a lawmaker's baby as he presided over a debate in the House of Representatives. Mallard posted two pictures of himself on the Chair with Tamati Coffey's baby.

In one of the images, Mallard is also seen feeding milk to the baby from a bottle. "Normally the Speaker's chair is only used by Presiding Officers but today a VIP took the chair with me. Congratulations @tamaticoffey and Tim on the newest member of your family," Mallard captioned his post.

Coffey is MP for Waiariki. He announced the birth of his son Tutanekai Smith-Coffey in July. The baby was born via a surrogate mother, BBC reports, adding that Tutanekai is the biological son of Coffey's partner Smith.
