The book I want to tell you about is one for which I saved up money to buy. It was a limited edition of a famous novel calledRed Sorghum, written by a Chinese writercalled Mo Yan. I made up my mind tobuy it when I finished reading the first chapter of it in a local shop.Actually, it was very expensive; it cost me nearly 2000 RMB. I saved all of my money for two monthsin order to get it and it broke my bank.
I really think he is a talentednovelist. I remember I found something about him on a domestic website calledSohu. I was surfing online just forfun and from a news report I found that he used to be a poor farmer in a smallvillage. For all of his die-hard fans, like me, he’s considered to be really hard-working. He never stopswriting and he is a born scribbler. He even got to win a Nobel Prize inLiterature, which seems to be incredible for Chinese writers of the pastdecades.
For the readers who love this book, it’s considered tobe very valuable—not in monetary terms, but in its cultural value. What I wantto tell you is that it was the first book that reflected the true history of Chinain the 1960s. Therefore, as a student who is very interested in history, Ireally wanted to get it, and by hook orby crook I did.
Finally, I would say this book really gave me asurprise. Maybe my personal experience can help you understand it? It was on acold winter’s afternoon and I was wandering around in a local bookshop. As I just mentioned, I’m a bit of a bookworm. Thena book in the corner grabbed myattention. I noticed that it was the book that I’d been longing for for a long time. I couldn’tfind it anywhere else before and I was completely amazed by this discovery. I’msure you can guess my feelings when I bought it. Yes, I was over the moon about it and very happy.
